Skip Bayless is an idiot.

I'm watching ESPN's First Take with Skip Bayless and the moron keeps belting out incorrect stats.

First he gets it wrong about the history of beating a team 3 times in the same season. He said the record is 1-3 the last 4 times it happened, plain wrong. More like 5-2 in the last 7 times and 8-3 in the last 11 times it happened. The 2-0 team dominates the 0-2 team when they meet for the third time, especially in recent history.

The next one he says you can't beat the same team three times in... More...

NFL wildcard early lines.

Jets @ Cincy -2 1/2  (34)

Despite the showing on Sunday Night Football, the Bengals will show up on Saturday.  Even though the Bengals have been slumping over the past month and have shown little success this time of the year in recent memory, I like the Bengals here.  Besides getting a nice price thanks to the public witnessing an unrealistic reflection of what we might expect, the Jets themselves are simply not a quality team.  Without the help from Cincy and Indy, the Jets would be far out of the playoff picture at this point.  I'll be rooting for the Jets because of the fiasco that put this in this unlikely situation, but my money will be against them in this spot for all of the reasons outlined above.  In fact, I'll be taking alternate lines where I can lay extra points with Cincy, this will be an ulgy blowout in Cincy.  I'll also take the under simply because the Jets will get shut out or close to it.  Final score: Cincy 31 Jets 0.

Philly @ Dallas -3 1/2  (45)

This is another game where I'll take any Dallas line laying extra points.  This one will be another blowout.  Philly has nothing on Dallas.  Absolutely nothing.  Philly @ Dallas II will be ugly, as most sequels are.  Philly had everything to play for yesterday and laid a turd.  Expect a replay or worse.  Dallas D is clicking like never before this decade.  Romo & Company on offense seem capable of doing what they need to do to win.  I don't know what Dallas will do in subsequent weeks in the playoffs, but I know they'll have no trouble at all with Philly at home.  Philly has some tragic flaws that I've seen for weeks.  There is no fix.  Dallas will exploit and dispatch the Philly team which sadly misses Jim Johnson's experience & discipline on the defensive side of the ball.  I like the under in this one as well because only one team will be scoring.  Final score: Dallas 37 Philly 0.

Baltimore @ NE -4  (43)

After a couple yawners on Saturday, we get a good matchup to start off Sunday.  The Patriots are the better team and should probably be laying a couple extra points here.  But Baltimore can come and play.  One key question mark will be about how much the Patriots will miss their main offensive weapon, Wes Welker who is out for the game.  I like his backup Julian Edelman, who got some meaningful snaps with Tom Brady in Houston, he finished with 10 catches for over 100 yards.  So, IMHO, I don't think the Pats miss a beat in this game despite missing Welker.  Also, it's tough to bet against Bill Belichik in the playoffs, especially at home.  I'm not sure how far the Pats can go this year, but I know they'll get this win.  My reasoning is because the Ravens defense simply isn't the defense of last year, much less previous seasons when they were dominant.  Granted, the Pats are lacking in the defensive department as well.  Flacco might be a key here, but I still can't see Flacco as putting this team on his back on the road in the playoffs against one of the most hardened playoff teams in the league.  Even so, this game will still be in doubt in the fourth quarter.  Take the over, there will be some scoring.  Final score: Pats 31 Ravens 23.

GB @ AZ -2 1/2 (48)

Similar to the Jets/Cincy blowout, this line has shifted too far in the wrong direction.  Arizona isn't as bad as their drubbing in a meaningless game might suggest.  Especially since Arizona is such a veteran team with recent playoff success, I don't see yesterday's game as meaning anything whatsoever.  Look for Warner and Fitz to turn up the dial one notch for the playoffs.  I'm not sure that tha Packers have that notch on their dial, much less whether they can find it when they need to find it.  This game is tough to assess because the Packers are a big unknown, being untested in the regular season because of their very easy schedule.  We just don't know how the Packers can respond in a must win game or in a tight game with the season on the line.  One thing we do know, is that the Cardinals have been there and done that in very recent memory.  I've got to take the Cards in this spot, especially at such a nice price at home.  But I do like the under in this game because I expect both teams to bring a little extra defensive intensity which we haven't seen from either so far this season.  Final score: Arizona 24 GB 20

Week 17 NFL

January 1, 2010 by slacker00

Colts @ Bills -9 I'm going with the Bills here. The Colts are treating this one as another bye week. Painter is terrible. Bills have home pride.

Saints @ Panthers -7 I'm going with the Panthers here. Saints are still banged up, Brees is resting. Panthers are hot right now and roll at home.

Jaguars @ Browns -1 1/2 The Browns are looking good right now, the Jags are slumping. Plus the Jags being eliminated last week is a letdown.

Eagles @ Cowboys -3 Cowboys all the way. The Eagles are hot, but Dallas is playing defense. Dallas finally wins a big game. Romo huge game.

Bears -3 @ Lions Gotta take the Bears here. They are trying to build for next year. Cutler will cut Detroit to ribbons. Lions on the clock again?

Pats @ Texans -8 I think the Pats gotta take a bye here, they are beat up. Even though BB doesn't do this, they will. Texans are a tough out.

Steelers -3 @ Dolphins It's Steelers time of the year. They get it done in Miami, hoping they can get some help and into the playoffs.

Giants @ Vikings -9 Vikings get it done at home. Vikings have the Giants' number over the years. Giants letdown after elimination. Eli sucks.

Bengals @ Jets -10 Jets win. Bengals have little motivation to play this one down to the wire. Rematch will come in playoffs. Bengals lay down.

49ers -7 @ Rams Going with the 49ers. The Rams just don't have enough talent on this team to give a solid challenge. Rams are on the clock.

Falcons -2 @ Bucs I'll take the Bucs here. They are a little hot and gaining confidence. This is a tough division matchup with Bucs at home.

Packers @ Cards -3 1/2 If you want the Cards, parlay it with the Giants because they'll rest starters unless the Giants win. Otherwise Packers.

Chiefs @ Broncos -12 Take the Chiefs. Too many points, ML. Plus it's a division game, etc, etc. Plus, Marshall & Royal are out.

Ravens -10 1/2 @ Raiders Take the Raiders. Too many points, ML. The Raiders are playing tough. Ravens probably win, but worth a gamble.

Redskins @ Chargers -3 1/2 Pound the Chargers. Redskins have given up. Chargers are unbeatable right now, even with Volek @ QB.

Titans -4 @ Seattle This one is tough. Titans are the better team, but maybe letdown after elminination. Seattle tough at home. CJ for 2k.
